JAMB cut-off mark and subject combination for Cyber Security

Cyber Security applicants usually search for one number and one list of subjects. Here are both, plus the part that matters more: the score you should really be aiming for.

The short answer

Cyber Security (BSc)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Chemistry or another science
National minimum (universities, 2026/27)150
A safe target at a competitive federal university230+
O'levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other sciences

The target is our guidance, not an official figure. Departmental cut-offs are set by each institution every year, and many state and private universities admit well below it. Always confirm your combination in the JAMB brochure and on your chosen institution's admission page.

JAMB subject combination for Cyber Security

Use of English, Mathematics and Physics, plus one more subject. Chemistry is the safest choice. Depending on the university, Biology, Economics, Geography or Computer Studies may also be accepted.

Cyber Security is a newer degree, and requirements vary more between universities than they do for older courses. Check the exact brochure entry for your institution before you register; do not assume it matches Computer Science.

JAMB cut-off mark for Cyber Security

The minimum JAMB set for universities for the 2026/2027 session is 150. For Cyber Security that number tells you very little: it only means you are allowed to apply.

Because the course is newer and offered at fewer universities, cut-offs vary widely. At universities where it is popular it has quickly become as competitive as Computer Science.

Set your own target: take last year's departmental cut-off at the institution you want, add 20 to 30 marks as a buffer, and divide by four. That is your per-subject average to train for. How cut-offs work explains the three different numbers involved.

O'level requirements

Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other sciences, usually at no more than two sittings. Some institutions insist on one sitting for competitive courses. Your O'level is checked separately from your UTME, so a strong JAMB score does not rescue a missing credit.

How to prepare for Cyber Security in JAMB

  • Mathematics carries you. It is the backbone of the degree and of your score. Start with the topics that repeat.
  • Don't neglect English. Science candidates routinely score lowest in English, and it has the most questions. See where the marks are.
  • Keep Computer Science as a backup. The same combination usually works for both, so you can list either.
