A disclosure first
JAMBUDDY is one of the three things described below, so read this knowing who wrote it. The comparison is still worth making honestly: if a browser CBT site or a stack of PDFs suits your phone and your data better, use those. A candidate practising somewhere else is a much better outcome than a candidate not practising.
Why “just download the app” is a real ask
For a lot of candidates this is not a small thing, and it is worth naming why rather than pretending the install is free.
- Storage. Plenty of students sit JAMB on an entry-level Android with 16 or 32GB, most of it already gone to the system, WhatsApp and photos. A study app of a few tens of megabytes, plus the question bank it pulls down afterwards, is a genuine decision.
- Data. The install is a one-off cost, but it is a lump, and it lands before you know whether the thing is any good.
- Play Store access. Not every phone has a working Google account. Shared phones and hand-me-downs often do not.
- Permissions. A parent who is wary of a child installing something that asks for contacts and storage is being sensible, not difficult.
None of that makes apps wrong. It makes “install first, evaluate later” backwards, when the install is the expensive part.
What works with nothing installed
Three options, and each of them costs you something.
A browser CBT site. Opens in Chrome, nothing to install, and the better ones mimic the real CBT screen closely — which is useful practice in itself. The trade-off is that you need a connection for every single question, the layout on a small phone is often cramped, and your history usually disappears the moment you clear your browser or change phone.
Past questions as PDFs. Free, everywhere, and once downloaded they are the only option here that works with no connection at all. But a PDF cannot mark you, cannot time you, and cannot tell you which topic you keep missing. You end up testing recognition rather than recall, which feels productive and teaches very little — there is a way to use them properly, and it takes more discipline than most people expect.
A Telegram bot. If Telegram is already on the phone, and for most candidates it is, there is nothing to install. Questions arrive as ordinary chat messages, answers are marked immediately, and it runs on the same low-end phone that struggles with a heavier app. The honest trade-off: a chat is not a copy of the CBT screen, and you still need a connection.
If you do install something, mind the APK trap
Search “JAMB app APK download” and you will find plenty of files hosted on sites with no connection to whoever wrote the app. A repackaged APK can carry anything, and the phone holding your bank app is not where you want to find out.
Install from the Play Store. The warning sign is an app distributed only as a direct download, especially one offering paid content free.
How to test any of them tonight
Whatever you pick, the test is the same and it takes one evening.
- Sit 20 questions in your weakest subject, timed. Not your best one — anything looks good in your best one.
- Check that it marked you honestly, and that you can see why each wrong answer was wrong.
- See whether it tells you which topic to revise next, or only hands you a score.
- Come back tomorrow and see whether it remembered you.
Anything that fails the last one is a quiz, not preparation. Tracking across days is the whole difference between practising and passing time.
Questions people ask
Can I practise for JAMB without installing an app?
Yes. A browser CBT site, past-question PDFs and a Telegram bot all work with nothing installed. Each trades something: the browser needs a connection for every question, PDFs cannot mark or time you, and a chat is not a copy of the CBT screen.
Will JAMB practice work on a low-end phone?
Anything that runs in your browser or inside Telegram will run on a phone that cannot spare the storage for an app. That is the main reason to prefer them on an entry-level Android, where the system, WhatsApp and photos have usually taken the space already.
Are JAMB app APK downloads safe?
Install from the Play Store. A repackaged APK from an unrelated download site can carry anything, and the usual warning sign is an app distributed only as a direct download, or one promising paid content for free.
Is practising in a chat as good as the real CBT?
For the questions themselves, yes: the same past questions, marked the same way, with the same weak-topic tracking. For the screen and the mouse, no. Sit at a computer at least once before the day so the hardware is not new to you.
Practise this, don't just read it. Nothing to install and no signup form: JAMBUDDY runs inside Telegram, with timed mocks and 20,000+ real past questions. Free for 14 days. Open @jamb_buddy_bot.
