The shape of the process
Registration runs in a fixed order: create your profile, pay, register at an accredited centre with your biometrics captured, select your subjects and institutions, and print your slips. Each step depends on the one before it, so errors early are expensive to unwind.
Exact fees, dates, required documents and the current portal flow change every year. Take them from jamb.gov.ng for your own registration year, not from an article or a group chat.
For 2027, JAMB has announced a pre-registration app that lets you check your NIN details, subject combination and course choices on your phone before you go to a centre. What else is confirmed, and what the 2026 dates suggest, is in our JAMB 2027 update.
The details that must be exactly right
- Your name, spelling and order. It must match your other documents — O'level results, birth certificate, everything you will present later. A mismatch surfaces at admission or at matriculation, and correcting it then is slow and sometimes costly.
- Date of birth. Same reason, and age requirements exist.
- Your subject combination. Verified against your course requirement before you submit, not after.
- Institution and course choices. These interact with cut-offs and quotas.
- A phone number and email you will still control in a year, because that is how you will be contacted.
The errors that hurt most
- Wrong subject combination — the single most damaging, because no score can rescue it.
- Name mismatches across documents.
- Choosing an institution on reputation alone, without checking its cut-off or its screening weighting for your course.
- Registering at an unaccredited centre, which puts the whole registration at risk. Use accredited centres only, verified through official channels.
- Losing the profile details. Save your registration number, email and phone somewhere you will still find them months later.
Before you submit, check these three things
First, that your four subjects match the brochure requirement for the exact course. Second, that your name and date of birth match your O'level documents character for character. Third, that your chosen institution's own requirements — not just JAMB's — are satisfied. Ten minutes here saves a year later.
After registration
Print and keep your registration slip; you will need it. Watch official channels for your exam date and centre, which you may not get much notice of, and which may not be near you. And then start practising — the gap between registration and the exam is the entire preparation window, and it closes faster than candidates expect.
