What is confirmed so far
As of 15 September 2026, this is what has been announced for the 2027 cycle:
- A pre-registration app. On 14 September 2026 JAMB announced a National Digital Pre-Registration App for the 2027 UTME. Its purpose is to let candidates research courses, check their NIN details, check subject combinations and eligibility, and plan their choices on their own phones before going to a registration centre. The centres become the final verification step rather than the place you make decisions in a hurry.
- The cut-off marks for the current admission cycle. At its May 2026 policy meeting JAMB kept the minimum for universities at 150, set 150 for colleges of nursing and 100 for polytechnics. Those apply to the 2026/2027 session; the minimums for candidates sitting in 2027 will be set at the 2027 policy meeting, after the exam.
If you read a specific 2027 registration date, fee or exam date anywhere before JAMB publishes it on jamb.gov.ng, treat it as an estimate.

What 2026 tells you to expect
JAMB's calendar has been fairly steady from year to year, so the 2026 cycle is the best guide available. If 2027 follows the same shape:

The 2026 UTME registration cost was reported at ₦7,200, with Direct Entry at ₦5,700. Candidates had to be at least 16. Expect similar, and check before you pay.
The practical point: if the exam lands in mid-April again, you have roughly seven months from today. Registration takes a week of that. Preparation is the rest.
The JAMB 2027 syllabus
The syllabus changes very little from one year to the next. Topics are occasionally added or trimmed, but the core of each subject is stable, so there is no reason to wait for the 2027 version before revising. Start with the current syllabus for your subjects, and check for changes when the 2027 one is published through JAMB's official channels.

The JAMB 2027 novel
The recommended text for the 2026 UTME was The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba. JAMB has not yet confirmed the 2027 text. It sometimes keeps a novel for more than one year and sometimes replaces it, so confirm it in the 2027 Use of English syllabus before you buy a copy. The novel carries only a handful of questions, but they are some of the easiest marks on the paper if you have actually read it.
What to do before registration opens
- Get your NIN sorted now. Registration depends on it, and the details on it must match your other documents. Fixing a mismatch in January, with everyone else queueing, is miserable.
- Decide your course, then your subjects. Your four subjects follow from the course. See the requirements for Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Law, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Mass Communication and Accounting.
- Sit a timed mock now, not in March. The first mock is always humbling. Better to be humbled with seven months left than seven weeks.
